Freedom Writers Movie Review

The name of the movie being review is "Freedom Writers". This movie first came to realease on January 5th, 2007. The director of this movies is Richard LaGravenese, names of the main actors are; Hilary Swank (the teacher), Patrick Dempsey (the teachers husband), April L. Hernandez (As Eva,a student and a gang member), and Jason Finn(another important student and gang member).

In this movie a new, young teacher takes over a class of gang members, and kids who had a hard lifes and lives in lower class communitys and they know what it is like to shoot and be shot at. This young teacher inspires these students to respect and be respected, she teaches them toloerance and also inspires them to finish high school or even go farther.

This movie reminded me of the move "The Outsiders" in a way. In "The Freedom Writers" Eva sticks up for her gang members and will do anything for them. But after she realize's what life is really all about, she tells the truth about what happened when her fellow gang memeber shot a man. Instead of lieing and maybe goin to jail her self. This is something like when "Pony Boy" has to go to court and tell about what happend when his fellow gang member "Johnny' stabed a boy from another rival gang. Ponyboy doesnt lie and everything turns out alright, no one goes to jail because it was self defence. Both of these movies were great and compare well.

Hilary Swank's preformence was excellent in this movie. She starts out as unexpierienced teacher with a class that no other teachers would teach. She is not embaressed to teach these kids. She finally gets her love threw to them and they realize how much she loves them and what she will go threw to help them. They show love for her eventually and cant go with out her. The class and Hilary even fight with the head of the school so she can teach them in junior and senior year.

Hilary Swank never went threw this kind of expiernece before, she took a bunch of teenagers who didnt know what they wanted or what they was doing and made them into perfect kids. It is alomost like this movie had a city theme of "Might is right" or "Love and comparision have great healing powers".
