They have been around from 1965 to 1996. Some people use them for a family car, some for a sports car, and some people reg them up for antique cars. The Caprice Classic was around for many years, it is a lot of peoples favorite car. The Caprice Was honored twice with the ''Motor Trend Car Of The year" award and was also on ''car and driver magazine's" "Ten Best List". The Caprice has a very interesting history.
It all started in 1965 when they "trimmed" up the Chevy Impala and turned it into the "Caprice". The Caprice was well shown the first year in 1965. In 1966 the Caprice was expanded into a full top of the line series and also included a two door hard top, in contrast to the "SS Impala". A V8 engine was installed in every Caprice. You could also get special features such as power steering, automatic transmission, white side wall tires, and vinyl top. Mostly every Caprice came with these features.
At the same time Ford had the "Galaxie 500 LTD" and Dodge had out the "Manaco" and "Polar". Both companies was trying to compete with the Chevrolet "Caprice Classic" but either company could get close to the Caprice. Ford tried to compete with Chev by offering power windows, power seats, power steering, and air conditioning and half or full vinyl tops. Dodge offered sedans, hardtops, and station wagons and that was about it they never offered very many special features.
Caprice was top of the line car on the market everywhere, they offered way more features than any other cars around. Everyone was driving them, talking about them, and loving them. they loved the special features, the good gas mileage and the low cost. It was the car everyone was looking for.
I myself am a very big fan of the Caprice Classic, I own one of my own and would like to have a lot more. They are a great car and i would recommend anyone that likes "big old cars" to get one and either keep it for an antique, to drive or for both.
